From the ashes of a family catastrophe to the heights of the freeride mountain biking world, Brage Vestavik’s journey began right in his backyard. After a devastating house fire left his childhood home burned to the ground, Brage saw more than just a construction site; he saw a bike park. Instead of chasing him off, his parents offered encouragement, promising their ever-enthusiastic son a new “pile of dirt” in exchange for success at school. With that, a new fire was lit. Vestavik’s been building—and progressing—ever since.
Encouraged by his father, Arnebjørn, who Brage calls his hero, they spent weekends biking together, fostering a shared love for the sport. After a brief stint on the World Cup circuit, Brage found his true calling in building rather than racing. With friends, he crafted a community from scratch, carving trails and creating legendary videos like his X Games Real MTB 2021 Fan Favorite entry and Red Bull’s Sound of Speed.
“It doesn’t matter how old or young you are. Or what level you are,” Brage says of the local bike club he and his dad now run in Mysen. “Everyone is just riding and having fun.” In his hands, freeride biking isn’t just a sport; it’s a way of life. For Brage Vestavik, this truly is home.
